Happy New Year!!!!
We did our usual - watch the ball drop in Times Square and then join our neighbors outside banging on pots, hollering, lighting fireworks and then inside for a glass of champagne. Another year safe and together, still alive and healthy and no matter what the worries over the past year - - we made it and we're okay.
I love watching the ball drop - I have done it for decades. I was thrilled when, in year 2000, the new ball designed by Waterford Crystal was dropped. Gorgeous!
According to the Waterford site: "The 1000 pound ball is approximately 6 feet in diameter and contains over 650 lights. It's outer surface is covered with 504 Waterford Crystal panels specially designed and cut to insure that they can survive the extraordinary extremes in temperature that exist at the top of One Times Square on New Year's Eve. 72 of the 504 panels are replaced each year with a new theme.
The Times Square 2007 theme for these new panels is Hope for Peace. For 2007, an additional 72 panels will be replaced with the Hope for Peace panels."
Well, sure. Why not? 'Hope for Peace' sounds nice.
I say, 'Hope for Peace - Be Ready for War!'
Happy New Year to all of you, God bless you and God bless America!

Still catching up! Whew what a night! :)
Happy New Year Monica!
LMC, Skye, DCAT - Thank you!
Zendo Deb - I love it when you talk Latin! lol! I knew I had heard something like that - thanks. LOVE those Romans...;-)
Monica,
Here I am a day late, wishing you a Happy New Year!
I've been watching that ball drop all my life. And I love it every time.
What fun! Happy New Year Monica! Hope 2007 is the best yet! :)
I was the ball drop on TV too; Dick Clark is finally looking kinda old!
AOW - thanks and Happy New Year to you, too!
Kate - I'm sure many would think it's boring but we have a great time. Happy New Year to you and thanks for coming by!
Mr. GG - I'm so glad we're not the only ones who watch. lol! I thought Dick Clark looked pretty good but I guess I hadn't heard him speak since his stroke. God bless him for getting up there in front of those cameras again to help us ring in the New Year.
Happy New Year!
So far...so good. Hope it lasts.
Is pot banging a traditional thing or do I just live in a cave?
Happy New Year!
Where's the Troll been hiding?
Thanks Wordsmith - same to you. Our year is going great so far! lol.
Mike - you've never banged pots?? Actually, you bang a pot with a spoon. With several people banging at the same time it raises quite a clatter. All the time screaming Happy New Year! Then you throw the black cats - you know about black cats. Those little firecrackers. Everyone on the block does it.
Troll is lying on the couch in his new flannel pajama pants eating caramel Hershey kisses. He's totally burned out - too much PlayStation I think. He'll be back...
Never did the pot banging thing. Everyone on the outside of the compound's walls were shooting off rockets. They frown on that on this side of the wall.
Happy New Year, Monica! Started to watch the fireworks in London (on tv), but found the fireworks going off 365 degrees in our neighborhood were far more thrilling.
We didn't watch it this year -- we started a movie just before 12 and forgot to pause to watch the ball drop. Our kids nearly disowned us! How can it be the new year if we didn't get to see the ball drop?! My 6yo daughter told me "This was the worst New Year ever!". Guess we won't do THAT again, lol!
Mike. Compound? You live in a frigging COMPOUND? That's no fun at all!
Alicenot - thanks for coming by. I just love fireworks!
Dagney - good to see you, too. Thank you and I hope the same for you. We had a really nice Christmas. Glad it's over, though!
Gem - awwwww. Gotta watch that ball drop! The 6 y/old has it! Thanks for commenting and blessings to you and your family for the New Year.
Belated Happy New Year!
I did the pot banging thingy too! You're supposed to open the door or windows to let the New Year in.
Anyways, I'm back!
Glad to see you are back atheling. Thanks and I hadn't heard about opening the door or window. I will do that from now on!
