Bathymetry Model and Moderate Islam That Aint.
We constructed a bathymetry model in a shoebox with homemade clay.
Of course, it isn't as pretty as some that I have seen. It's kind of cute though and it's drying until we can add dyed water to it tomorrow. A couple of neighbor kids will be in on the deal. The guyot kept falling over all afternoon but for now it is holding. The bathymetric data was taken from an area in the Atlantic ocean. (Yes - the guyot is a feature mainly of the Pacific but she just adores that word - guyot - and had to include it. Just for fun.) The Continental Shelf, Continental Slope and Abyssal Plain are all there in that shoebox. She even added a trench. The shoebox is plastic.
Onward and upward.
Our stiff upper lipped cousins across the pond have aired a special on mohammedism. Apparently a mosque that is billed as a 'mainstream' mosque is not anywhere near what would be considered moderate. Scary stuff. We must follow the example of our brave allies in Brittania, and we must display the same positively Churchillian courage and look at the nasty thing right in the face. Call it what it is. Islam is a death cult and it is dangerous. My opinion of it has evolved since 9/11 and I believe that even the most sane moslem in the world would have no problem with me paying the jizya. Neither would they flinch to see my voice given only half the consideration of a man's voice. Islam was invented by Mohammed who, in turn, was a liar (beyond his claims as to hearing from "Allah"), a murderer, a bandit and a sexual abuser of a nine year old girl child. He changed the teachings from "Allah" to suit his changing political, economic and sexual needs. Nice guy!
James - I have seen some speculation that Mo had a sleep disorder. That's where all his visions came from.
If you wandered out under the hot sun in the desert staring as a camel's ass and having epileptic fits you'd have weird visions too! ;-)

The Birmingham mosque exposed in a Channel 4 documentary as a Mecca for extremist Muslims is being investigated by police after calls from an MP for police to intervene.
Eight MPs have signed an early day motion condemning the preacher's views.
Labour MP Roger Godsiff wrote to the West Midlands Chief Constable asking for an investigation, and police have confirmed they are studying the documentary.
"I am delighted the police are looking into this. I will see what conclusions they draw," Mr Godsiff said, according to ITN.
"If the police or Director of Public Prosecutions decide these comments were not racist, I think they are going to have a very difficult time"

THE firebrand Midland Islamic preacher at the centre of a controversial TV documentary was questioned by the FBI in America about alleged links with an al Qaida operative, the Sunday Mercury can reveal.
Abu Usamah At-Thahabi, who was secretly taped by undercover reporters as he delivered extremist lectures at a Birmingham mosque, was quizzed by US agents just months after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.
The New Jersey-born Muslim convert was an imam at the Islamic Center of Peoria in Illinois when federal agents swooped in December 2001 and arrested Qatari student Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri, who was a regular worshipper.
Abu Usamah was questioned by federal agents who believed he may have had some influence on the student - but he was never arrested.
