Down the Shore

Yes - we'll be doing something I always said I would NEVER do. Going 'down the shore' for the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Other things I have done that I said I would NEVER do:

Own a mini-van.
Buy a rowhouse.
Get bangs.
Wear a girdle. (swear to God)
Tell my kids, 'because I said so'.

Happy 4th of July and God Bless America!

When I was little, my parents would have died without that answer to end all answers, "because I said so." I plan on using it extensively with my kids. I mean hey, when you've got something that works...

Happy Fourth of July!

I've found myself saying LOTS of things I swore I'd never say to my kids in the last 27 years. I don't even realize I'm doing it until it echoes in my head. Then I realize. . . OH MY GOD, I'M BECOMING MY MOTHER!
There is redemption though. I have caught my daughter saying things to her stepkids that she swore she'd never say either. ;D

Isn't it nice they don't call them girdles anymore, but 'slimming undergarments'?

Been there, done that - had the minivan! My husband DRUG me up there and made me sit in a PLUSH Olds back in 1997 - and I fell for it. :) I say I'd never get one again, but I've learned to never say never!

Ditto on the "because I said so", too. I also repeat this little ditty my mom said to me: "You are getting on my last nerve!" For shame!

I've always loved Bill Cosbey's threat to his kids, " I brought you into this world, and I can take you out. And...make another one just like you."

Neo - 'Because I said so' is a valid response at times I now know. :-)

Steven - here are my guesses: Owned a mini-van. Had bangs. Gone 'down the shore' for the 4th of July.

TSHMOM - I have noticed that I am very like my own mother as well. When my girls look at me funny I tell them 'Wait until you're a mother - then you will understand.'

Mike - yes - well - when I was their age I was riding my bike through the woods and playing in the creek all day. For hours and my mother didn't even know where we were. Not my girlies.

Gem - I didn't know they had a nice new name. It's much more musical to the ear than 'girdle'.

Sprittibee yes I LOVE my minivan. LOVE it. I also say 'you're getting on my last nerve'! LOL!

Alice - my husband's favorite is that Bill Cosby routine. He loves the whole thing and quite often laughs at things I do and describes how Bill Cosby has spoken of them.

Thanks all for your comments. I hope that you had a wonderful holiday!
