Victory in New Orleans
Anh 'Joseph' Cao (R) rides to victory in New Orleans. He will be the first Vietnamese-American Congressman. William Jefferson, the guy with the cash hidden in his freezer, is out and will be facing trial in 2009 along with several relatives who also happen to be 'public servants' in the NO area.
The bio of Mr. Cao is a shining example of the American Dream. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam and fled at the fall of Saigon - he was 8 years old. His father spent several years in a North Vietnamese prison. This guy knows what tyranny is all about, and it aint Amerikkka - as an associate of Obama likes to call the United States of America. He has earned a bachelor degree in physics from Baylor University, a masters in philosophy from Fordham University, and a Law degree from Loyola. He has volunteered with the Boat People SOS and opened a local office to help Vietnamese refugees in his area. He was selected by Archbishop Alfred Hughes of the Archdiocese of New Orleans to be a member of the National Advisory Council to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He and his family fled Hurricane Katrina, and upon their return to N.O., they found everything they owned destroyed. They have rebuilt, and he has helped his community rebuild, fighting against plans to make the community a local landfill. America isn't about suckling off the teat of big government, it's about working hard and realizing your dreams. Mr. Cao knows all about that and he is a testament to what anyone living in the United States of America can achieve.
I would really like to sit down and have a cup of coffee with this guy. He is red, white and blue all the way. God bless him and his family in their newest endeavor, and God Bless America!
Hat tip: Mike's America.

Jefferson's been corrupt for so long that it was bound to catch up to him. If the press had done their job and reported more on what a disgrace he was, he probably would've been out sooner.
I agree, Mr. GG. What blows my mind is that he was running for re-election even as his court date loomed. So many politicians have no shame. None at all.
Cao's victory is a bright spot during these dark days.
We need more Americans like him.
That is a wow story really. I am happy he made a life for himself and his family. You see what kids have as dreams do come true sometimes as adults.. You just have to put your mind to it and study hard..
I agree, AOW. The runoff election and then this that gave us a few more R's in Congress are going to help stem the tide of socialistic policies that Obama's group would love to enact. Would that natural born citizens understood the beauty of America as well as so many refugees who come here for a better life.
Father - Amen to that! I think this is wonderful news, and ATLEAST as important as a black democrat being elected President. Bobby Jindal is also another success story - he's Republican too though - so maybe that's why it's not news. I didn't see anything about this on the news. We are still America and there is always hope.
Tweetey - so true. It's not an easy thing to work hard to achieve ones dreams, but it is most definitely possible and encouraged here in the United States of America - the greatest country on the face of the Earth.
This was some much needed good news and what a great personal story.
Here's someone whose family risked their lives to get to this country.
Freedom is something precious to those who have been without it.
Someone should tell the lefties.
Agreed, Mike!
Monica: Troll tells me he has been hanging around at the Michelle Obama Watch Site:

Better keep an eye on him!
