Let's Go Flyers!

Grizzly Mama went to the Flyers game tonight at the Wachovia Center. I haven't been to a hockey game for about 15 years.

I loved it - and the Flyers won in O/T.

It's something being at a hockey game. It's a brutal game and the Philadelphia fans are brutal fans. I was right in there too, cheering to see the Panthers goalie apparently injured. Yelling 'ASSHOLE' and 'YOU SUCK' in unison with several thousand people when the refs gave a crap call - or didn't call against the Panthers when they should have. There's nothing like it.

Of course - it all starts with 'The Star Spangled Banner' and (of course) everyone stands. All 19,530+ Americans. We all cheer when it's done, too. Then we all yell at the players (our own and the opposing team), the refs - whoever!

I love being an American. I especially love being an American in Philly.

Ah, the old "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" kinda thing. Sounds like you had a ball. Have a great weekend Monica.

Hockey is maybe the most entertaining sport to see in person. Unfortunately, we haven't had a real hockey team in Chicago for over a decade now.

On a different note, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, Grizzly, but Philadelphians have the reputation of being some of the most brutish fans in America. I think the most famous incident was a game about 7 years ago between the Eagles and the Cowboys at Veterans stadium, where Cowboys star receiver Michael Irvin was injured. The Philly fans booed him as the medics carried him out on a stretcher!

Philly fans are the WORST! Remember when they bloodied the Santa Claus on the field with an ice ball? How about the time in Baltimore when a fan abused the mascot of the Baltimore team? It turns out it was a person from Philly that did it. We really can't stand the Dallas Cowboys - so that was a double whammy. Nasty fans and a team they hate.

Philadelphians in general are, by far, the rudest, nastiest people I have ever encountered in my travels.

It is exciting to see a hockey game in person. Thanks Alice - you have a great weekend, too!

Those refs are something else. How many people would choose a job where you go to work and have 20,000 people yell, "YOU SUCK!" at you - in unison? Yikes!

Way back when in Philly - the refs had to be smuggled out by the cops. They had decoy cars and everything.

It's not that bad these days. It's still not a job I would want. Not only the crowd screaming at you but being in the middle of that insanity on the ice looks kind of scary.
