We found a place to winter

It's a large farmhouse in Lancaster County. We've put the application in and we will hear on Tuesday whether they like us.

Lancaster County is so beautiful. Love it out there.

Wish us well!

Lancaster County is gorgeous. It's COMPLETELY different from Philly - thank God!

Cool! I'm sure you'll enjoy the peacefulness!

It will be nice to have time to choose just the right house to buy. No hurried decisions this way.

Thanks tshsmom - the buyers of our house wanted a very fast settlement date so that left us no time to make a good decision on buying. Also with renting, we'll see if Troll can deal with the commute into Philly. It might not be doable and then we'll know not to buy so far away.

I really hope that we get this farmhouse. It is ultra-cool. lol.

Nothing against the Amish but is that a buggy and horse in your photo?? We have loads of them out by Jeff's sister's house. Just wondering. I have met a few and they can be really nice people. They just live differently than us is all. Beautiful place if you get it though. I hope you do.

That IS an Amish horse and buggy, Tweets! There is a huge Amish population in Lancaster County and a huge Mennonite population as well.

Our farmhouse (if we get it) is quite near to a decent size town.

Will Troll be commuting by horse and buggy?

No Mike. But close! He'll be putting into Philly on his Harley. Well - nice days anyway.

I've visited Lancaster County several times and love it there.

Here's hoping that you get the house.

Thanks AOW. Now the buyer is trying to fiddle with the price.
We basically told them to go blow. We may be here for a few more months, but I can live with that.

*sigh* We'll know shortly.

LOL Kate. I know. I keep thinking what's with the audacity of making this thing happen? It's crazy, but in a good way. ;-)

I will definitely continue to update. Thanks.

But isn't that how it happens? I read your post (on freaking out!!) after I read this one... It just seems that when it rains - rains good things that is - it pours!! Can't wait to see/hear how it all unfolds for you all...

Oh Kate. I'm freaking out again. We just heard from the buyer that she wants us to go down on the price. We told her forget it, and I had resolved to just stay put. Now we're hearing nevermind, she'll go with her original offer. We have to get our breaker box certified by an electrician, though.

I'm a wreck. I just want to be home and get school done with the kids. We're getting some done, but not nearly enough for my taste.

*whine*

Stay strong, don't let the buyer get you down! :-)
Pushing for a fast settlement is an attempt to get you off-balance and accede to other terms - resist the time-pressures, there's no such thing as a shortened Escrow period, and any attempt to circumvent it is a danger sign.
IMO there's always these kinds of feints and pokes and squirrelly nudges attempted in real estate transactions, because a lot (no pun intended!) is at stake.

OMG Dirtcrashr - the buyer tried pulling another fast one today. I'm ready to tell her to go scratch.

On the other hand, we were approved for the farmhouse. We don't sign the lease papers until Friday, though. So if she tries to pull some more stuff before then - we'll have room to just back out.

Oh jeeze what a punkass - this is one reason it's good to have Real Estate Agents as intermediaries - so you don't have direct contact and scratch the bitch's eyes out... Stay cool, even with the sub-prime loan "scandal" the economy is up with high consumer confidence and it's a seller's market.

OMG Dirtcrashr. I think she's just plain dumbass ignorant or something. This is a business transaction and there are certain rules that ought to be followed when one enters into a business transaction. She's NUTS! LOL. I had to deal with her directly last night (not my choice!) and almost ripped her face off. The realtors are scrambling to smooth things over and keep us apart. That's why they earn that commission - right? I only want to see her face at the settlement, sign the papers and get the hell out of dodge.

I believe you're right on the economy. My neighbors were very gloom and doom a few weeks ago - oh - the house will never sell, you'll never get what you're asking, the economy is tanking, blah, blah, blah. They are wrong and now they are patching things up on their houses (atleast 3 of my neighbors) and getting ready to go in the spring. Don't know what the situation will be then - but our capital gain will be tucked away earning a bit more money while we wait this out.

Thanks for your supportive comments. This whole thing is driving me nuts. *scream*

Ah, Monica, the lovely rolling hills of Pennsylvania! I grew up in Lehigh County farm country so I know how wonderful it is!

You'll be so happy there! Good luck and a great find!

Thank you atheling! I grew up in Denver and really thought that there is no more beautiful place than the Rockies. Pennsylvania IS just as beautiful - just in a very different way. I love it once I get out of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
