It's official. The studies have now been studied.

Socialization of homeschoolers is no longer an issue.

"Susan McDowell, author of "But What About Socialization? Answering the Perpetual Home Schooling Question: A Review of the Literature,” has researched 24 studies on the socialization of homeschoolers, according to Bristol Herald Courier. "It’s a non-issue today," said McDowell, who earned Ph.D. in educational leadership from Vanderbilt University. "All the research shows children are doing well.""

Does she have enough initials behind her name for you to listen to her? Is the University she attended prestigious enough for you?

Well - thank goodness for her. It's only what I and anyone who has home educated their own kids have been saying for years now. The kids are FINE. In fact, they're better off.

You will still find the naysayers though. Our Susan McDowell has tried to find something, ANYTHING, to support the naysayers. Here is what she found:

"On one occasion, she was challenged by one of her publishers to find evidence that homeschoolers were socially deficient compared to their publically educated counterparts.

However, she claims finding no one in the academic field with such view supported by research."

The next time you hear the claptrap of homeschoolers not being 'socialized' - just refer them to this woman's book:

I'm at the library now. (The kids are participating in a Christmas craft project and guess what? There are OTHER KIDS there!! Yes - my kids actually DO get out of the house and spend time with OTHER KIDS!) When I get home to my notes I will put up a link on the sidebar to Ms. McDowell's book.

I wonder if anyone has bothered to do a study on how well public school kids are being socialized?

Hmmm – Just by a casual observation (and personal experiance) of any local public school kids who are “socialized” with hundreds of other delinquent kids their age, I would say that it doesn’t look too good.

Our government has given us the largest bureaucratic daycare and brainwashing system in the world! Public schools teach gang-rule, severe competition, ultimate peer pressure, chemical dependency, sexual promiscuity, gender neutrality, sexual harassment, sick vocabulary, horrible eating habits, homosexual tolerance, meaningless existence and the list goes on and on and on…

Oh yes, let’s not forget rape, molestation and other sexual crimes which are ordinary events at public schools today. Most of which are primarily committed by the trusted government authorities.

Great - Where do I sign my kids up?

Spelling correction: *experience*
- Sorry, I’m still recovering from PS.

Also, I wanted to mention that our family just returned from Hawaii and we didn’t have to get permission from any school to go. We were able to do reading and spelling schoolwork on the airplane, and while we were at the beach and taking scenic drives around the beautiful island, we were able to do up close and personal studies about geography, agriculture, history and God’s wonderful Creation. ~ Oh the joys of homeschooling!

Plus, in addition to all that, we were able to socialize with dozens of people ages 5 to 85 from an entirely different culture – how neat is that? You won’t get that at any public school!

I think it might be about job protection Troll - and also maybe a little ego stroking on their part. They LIKE being the ones who know better.

Dani - your trip sounds wonderful and I am glad that you are back safe and sound. I'm telling you - being able to take those kids traveling and meeting people within the construct of a safe environment is the ONLY way to go. So glad you were able to do that for yourselves AND for your kids.

There are also studies that prove that homeschoolers relate much better to adults than public school kids. Is it any wonder? Why would kids trust adults in the public school environment, when they constantly betray the kid's trust?

H/T means hat tip. I found the link on your site - so I am tipping my hat to you.

Tshsmom from what I have observed it is very clear that the homeschooled kids I know relate with adults very well. They also relate very will with ALL age groups. From babies to old people, they are engaged and interested.

All I have to go on is empirical evidence and that suggests that home schooled kids are self centered and don't relate to society the way normal kids do, even in adulthood.

So according to YOUR evidence, Toady, you MUST have been homeschooled!!

Ahhhh yes. Toady and his 'emperical evidence.'

You have no such thing you liar! Don't COME on my blog and LIE Toady.

It's bad enough that you spout the leftist claptrap almost to perfection - but don't COME over here and deliberately LIE!

I'm gonna git you with my mop. Right on top of your bug-eyed head little Toady!!! Go! Go away now!

Duh, of course the Bureaucrats are obsessed with socialization of the children under their care - they're Socialists and want to make sure the brainwashing sticks!

I can't imagine your kids being anything but well-educated and well-rounded. I've always admired those that do homeschooling.

It is a shame that you are teaching children and you don't know what empirical means. Do you even have a degree? What about a teaching degree? Everyone who taught me had actual teaching degrees; a lot of them even had masters degrees.

It would be a hard sell to say that something based on empirical evidence was a lie.

em-pir-i-cal adj Relying on or derived from observation or experiment

Clearly what I was referring to was based on the people I have met and with whom I have interacted with in the past.

You've never met a homeschooled kid in your life, have you? In fact I would hazard a guess that you've limited yourself to interacting with those who share your narrow vision of the world.

So much for your 'empirical' evidence. Liar.

Toady the fact that you can look up the definition of 'empirical' is wonderful. You might actually have a brain cell or two. But the proof that those brain cells are burnt: defining the word empirical is not producing the 'empirical evidence' that you tout. Wheres your fact fool?

Well Toady boy, I think your last statement speaks for itself:

“Everyone who taught me had actual teaching degrees; a lot of them even had masters degrees.”

Hmmm? Imagine that!

Oh Toad! Don't come here raving about your "empirical evidence!" It means nothing to you unless you have nothing else to attack a subject on, Mr. "Dark Matter: It's there, we just can't see it!"

Empirical, my foot.

Yeah Neo. He gives the definition of 'empirical' instead of actually presenting us with some 'empirical' evidence...

Happy New Year!
