Happy Easter
We all received a gift today - Captain Phillips is safe. Thanks to our military, the Navy Seals, the snipers. Thanks to the crew who resisted and refused to give up their ship - and to Captain Phillips himself for embodying everything that is right about American values. He sacrificed his own safety for the safety of his crew, and the military who rescued him sacrificed their safety as well. It came out right this time, the bad guys are dead or captured. The good guys are safe and heroes in my mind. God bless them and their families and God bless America.
This problem of pirates is one that will have to be dealt with harshly. Too many countries have paid millions to these criminals, pirating and kidnapping has become a lucrative operation. Too easy to make millions - and yes, they have been paid millions - to jump on a ship brandishing weapons and threaten those aboard. I am shocked that the crews of all of these large vessels are unarmed! The waters in that area have been dangerous with pirates for a long, long time.

I heard that the UN ruled that merchant ships can't be armed. If I was running a shipping line, I'd have cannons on every ship and every crew member would carry sidearms!
Tshsmom - screw the UN! Self defense is a must! I'm with you on this!
Rev - hey - I thought I saw something saying that the captured pirate may be tried in the US Courts. Don't know if it's true or not but atleast Obama DID authorize the use of military force if necessary in this situation. I don't like the guy, either, but we have to give him that.
Hope you and the fam had a great Easter weekend!
We did, MrGG - thanks! I hope that you had a nice holiday weekend, too. We ate too much ham, but it was delicious!
Oh, yes! And then he'll be cured and we will have loved him enough to change him forever!! /sarc
Well, we just couldn't let those sailors carry guns now could we? They might use them! That would be WRRRONNNGGGG!!!!
This is what the libs want to do to all of us. Take away our guns and leave us at the mercy of pirates and robbers.
And let's not forget that the libs are cutting the military so there won't be any troops from Uncle Sam to answer the call if we need help.
I have heard somewhere that the UN has rules about who can pursue these pirates and forbidding coutries to do so. Was it the Law of the Sea Treaty?? I can't remember very clearly. Anyhoo - it seems that there is nothing about private citizens going after those pirates. Time for Blackwater to do their stuff??
